Compare PDF Files
Free PDF diff with no upload. Compare two PDFs page by page; each page renders and diffs visually, so layout shifts show even in scans.
Files never leave your browser.
About PDF Diff
Compares two PDFs page by page in three modes. Page text reads the text layer and shows word-level changes. Rendered pages draws each page as an image and marks pixel-level changes. Recognize text (OCR) reads the pages with an OCR engine that runs in your browser, then compares the recognized text. Pages pair by content, so an inserted page does not shift every later page.
How to use
- Pick a left PDF using the file picker or by dropping it onto the left zone.
- Pick the right PDF, then choose the compare mode: Page text for the text layer, Rendered pages for the page images, or Recognize text (OCR) for a scan.
- Type a Page range like 1-30 and click Apply to compare only part of a long document. In a Rendered pages result, Previous changed page and Next changed page step through the changes, and Download page list (CSV) or Open printable report save them.
What this tool doesn't handle
- Text mode needs a text layer. A scanned page holds no text, so compare such pages with Rendered pages, or with Recognize text (OCR) for an approximate text comparison in one or two of the nine OCR languages.
- Open printable report has a size limit. On a document with many changed pages the report leaves out the last ones and says how many.
Frequently asked questions
Do my files ever leave my browser?
No. Every comparison runs locally in your browser. Nothing you paste, drop, or load is uploaded to a server; the tool keeps working even if you go offline after the page loads.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes. All DiffResolver tools are free, with no account, sign-up, or installation. Because processing happens on your device, there are no server-imposed usage limits.
Does PDF Diff compare text or appearance?
Both. Page text reads the text layer and shows word-level changes. Rendered pages draws each page as an image and compares it pixel by pixel, which catches layout shifts, font changes and image edits that text extraction would miss.
Can I compare scanned PDFs?
Yes. Rendered pages works on scans because no text layer is needed. Small scanning artifacts may show as noise; raise Color tolerance to hide them. Recognize text (OCR) reads the pages instead and compares the words; the engine runs in your browser, so no page is uploaded, and the recognized text is approximate.
Can I compare password-protected PDFs?
Yes. When a PDF asks for a password, the page prompts for it and unlocks the file in the browser. The password and the document stay on your device.
Is there a file size limit?
No server limit applies, because nothing is uploaded. The memory of your device sets the practical limit. Above 10 MB for text, 40 MB for images, 100 MB for documents, or 500 MB for archives, the tool warns you that the work can be slow, but it never blocks the file.
Does this tool work offline?
Yes. The browser keeps a copy of the tool after the first visit, so a page you opened before still works without a network. You can also install DiffResolver as an app from the browser menu. Installation stays optional; the site works the same in a normal tab.
Where is my data stored?
Your files are stored nowhere. They stay in the memory of the page and are gone when you close the tab. Only what you save yourself stays in this browser: a snapshot, your tool options, and your theme. To remove it, open Settings and select Clear all local data.
